Why is it important to look beyond technology and also focus on the process and people and people that make a data platform successful?
Because technology is only one part of the equation. A data platform only delivers real value when the processes are well designed and people know how to work with it.
A technically strong platform has limited value if the supporting processes are not in place. This becomes apparent when no one knows who owns the data, governance is missing, or employees do not know how to use the available data. A sustainable data foundation therefore requires three interconnected components:
- Platform – The technical foundation for data.
- Process – Governance, quality, ownership, standards and ways of working.
- People – Employees with the knowledge, responsibilities and skills to work with data.
None of these three can stand alone: technology enables, processes provide control, and people create value.
